Welcome

Welcome to The Bodgery Makerspace! This Member Handbook contains some important and basic information that will help you at the space. If you find yourself wishing something useful to members was on the page, log in and add it! (ps - this page was lifted in great parts from the Milwaukee Makerspace version, with permission and encouragement. Feel free to do the same!)

The Board of Directors currently consists of these founding and initial members. To contact the board email board@thebodgery.org.

Once the makerspace has 25 members, we will hold elections for a full board slate, with officers and Directors at Large.

The makerspace has Area Champions/Red Shirts who oversee the activities in each of our many areas.

Glossary

Confused by all the words people are throwing around? Take a peek at our Glossary of Terms to help decipher any unfamiliar verbiage.

Regularly Scheduled Events

We post all our events, recurring or one-off, on the Events Page of our Website and our MeetUp group.

Our recurring events:

  • We are open to the public every Friday Night from 7-10 pm.
  • On the (second/?) (day of the week) of each month, we hold a Members Meeting, where we discuss Bodgery business, ideas for improvements and changes, feedback on existing policies and conditions, etc.

There are several regularly scheduled MeetUps at the makerspace. These MeetUps are open to the public.

  • Fiber Frenzy Craftacular (Every other Monday night 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm)

Every member can pick one day a month for several hours to let a bunch of non-members into the space as part of a club meeting or similar gathering. However, you need to create a calendar event and a reservation for the space you will be using. Otherwise other members can kick you out of your space!

Project Storage

One of the membership perks is a unit of storage for your personal tools, projects and materials, etc. Anything located within this space is not available to other members or guests.

Currently, storage space is located at the back of the loft area, and is one shelf (horizontal surface, between vertical struts) per member. In future, larger workshop spaces, we intend to create larger member storage areas.

Items belonging to a former member should be removed from the space before the first of the month after they become a member in suspension or terminate their membership. After that date, any items belonging to a former member may be disposed of at the discretion of the Board.

Parking Your Project

If a member has a personal project that won't fit in their storage area, but is difficult to transport back and forth from home, they may ask the Board for a “Parking Permit”. If approved, they can store their project in a public area (ideally in a corner of the floor space, not on public tables or workbenches) for up to 14 days.

The stored project should have a completed “Parking Permit” attached visibly to it. This indicates who owns the project, their contact phone/email, and the date the permit expires. When the Parking Permit expires, the member must either apply for a new one or immediately remove the property from The Bodgery.

Abandoned Property

Member property that is not stored completely in their storage space, or does not have a parking permit attached will be considered abandoned. Abandoned items will be moved to the Abandoned Property Area for 2 weeks, after which they will be repurposed, recycled or thrown out.

Dues Payment

Membership is currently $50/month, and includes a key fob for 24/7 access to the space, storage space for your projects/materials/personal tools, and voting rights on community decisions. Plus, you're helping support this effort to provide making experiences to anyone interested in the Madison area.

Note that all payment transaction fees are paid by the member making the payment. For Dwolla this is $0.25/transaction. We do not currently accept PayPal or other 3% fee services in the interest of saving us all money.

  • Dwolla. Note that the Dwolla transaction fee of $0.25 should be added to your payment.
  • BrainTree. No transaction fees at the present. They accept credit cards.
  • Cash or check deposited in the Drop Box or given to our Treasurer in person
    • Checks should be made out to “The Bodgery”

Payments are due the 1st of each month.

  • If dues are not paid by the end of the day on the 1st, key fobs/door codes will automatically be disabled.
  • If dues are still not paid by the end of the day on the 7th, memberships will be suspended.
  • Suspended members must reapply for membership by completing a new application form.

Web Presence

We have two Google Group mailing lists, and you should have been added to both upon becoming a member. One is a public list (MadCity Makers) and the other is members-only (The Bodgery). You can adjust your settings on the way you receive emails (daily digest, etc), but please stay on the members-only list for important announcements.

Keep track of makerspace events on our Events Page on our website, or by following our Google Apps calendar using XML, ICAL, or HTML.

The donation process is spelled out on their website here: https://atrium.schoolfactory.org/spacefed/node/28962.
